If you feel like your strumming has gotten a bit stale and are looking for a way to take it to the next level, this course is for you...
There's a very common scenario I see among my students... You've been playing guitar for a while but...
This is a very natural place to be in your playing and it can be understandably frustrating if you don't know how to overcome it!
Luckily, there is none! But there is a method to the rhythmic madness... the road to expression relies on a few key concepts:
A sort of boring first answer. But this really is the truth! To play something you hear effectively, you must understand what to listen for. Those experienced with this do it automatically and so will you once you get it in your system.
Ok... a bit more interesting this one. To strum a guitar is actually a very easy technique. Anyone can more or less have decent sucess on day 1 of learning to play the guitar. To have control over how you strum however... is where it gets tricky and interesting! Your ability to play expressively is absolutely going to rely on the right technique.
If you’ve ever felt any emotion listening to music before, dynamics are the cause. This has to do with not just what, but how we play the things we do. Understanding the role of playing less vs playing more, playing with changes in volume, or using other techniques to decorate the sounds we create. This really is a big part of strumming expression!
By this i’m referring to your rhythmic repertoire as a guitarist. Playing and learning from others is a great way to develop your own creativity and ability to play along to many styles of songs. Most of our learning experience probably comes from this!
While being a guitar teacher for over 10 years. I’ve analyzed the pain points in my students’ playing when it comes to their rhythm. And i’ve determined this this is a core problem, but once overcome, the breakthrough brings about some of the greatest rekindled joy in their playing.
Imagine being able to play any song you wish with multiple rhythmic ideas rather than that one strumming pattern you were taught from that YouTube lesson.
Imagine being able to create excitement and play in a way that people want to dance and sing along!
Imagine not having to ask... “what’s the strumming pattern for this song?” and then spend hours online looking for the “correct” strum.
Imagine having a better understanding of rhythm that helps you to jam along with other musicians in a fun an relaxing way.
Imagine just being able to enjoy playing anything again... add new life to old songs!
This course is created with these ideas in mind.
Let’s get to the details!
There are 5 main sections included in the course. 3 of them form the ore of your strumming development:
Learn the right approach before developing bad habits that could take months to undo! There is also a section dedicated to the absolute beginner which helps you get up to speed with basic strumming. The other core sections will absolutely have you sounding like you've been playing for years once applied to your playing!
The usual suspects! It’s very common for intermediates to be stuck in a rut when it comes to expression and progress. After learning the basics most tend to neglect a deeper study into technique and dynamics as strumming the guitar was a very basic step in the earlier stages of development. Prepare for some serious a-ha” moments as I help you to demystfy what you were missing all along!
Who am I to tell you what you need? Well we all have our weak points, and for some of you, this may just be it. Maybe you haven’t actually put thought into what was missing in your strumming all these years. Maybe skipped strumming class and went straight for shredding rock solos... or maybe you’re a teacher looking for the answers to your own students’ development. I’ve definitely got what you’re looking for in here, so welcome in!
Ok but seriously... The answer is, it depends! This course is meant as a study guide as you work on your musical development. You can go through the entire course in less than a day (it may be a bit much to intake though). But the goal is to assimilate it into your everyday playing.
There are many ideas in here that will immediately make sense to you. And things you can apply and hear the difference almost immediately as the technical barrier is not very high.
But for it to be consisent in your playing... even if it is for the length of just one song, it will take some practice time.
So keep it in mind... feel free to go through the course in its entirety without pause to get a sense of what you’re going to learn. But then dive deep into each lesson... the goal is to absorb and make these ideas a natural part of you.
This is going to be your close companion for the next few weeks/months!

I'm a self taught guitarist from the twin island republic of Trinidad & Tobago.
I've been teaching guitar for the past 10 years and have the opportunity to observe many students each with their unique challenges. This has absolutely taught me patience and the ability to have a beginners perspective to impart the right teaching methods to my students to bring about the quickest results.
To me teaching is the wonderful challenge of deconstruction and reassembly of complex technical and theorical ideas into bite sized, easy to understand actions. I love to teach and I love when to experience those "aha" moments with my students. I hope my passion translates will with my international audience and I hope to teach you also!
